Using Domain Authority as a pre-selection metric for domains
How do you find a good domain these days? Since PR hasn’t been updated in over a year we need something else. A lot of SEO’s are turning to Domain Authority when choosing domains as their backlinks.
How is it calculated?
Domain Authority is calculated on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100 with 100 being the best score. It’s important to remember that this metric is predictively generated via Moz’s secret algorithm and if you’re a half decent SEO then you will know that algorithms are not bulletproof and have weaknesses.
What does this mean for you?
Lets take a real life example that we can case study. Here below are the metrics for a PBN site in my network.
At first glance we can see the domain authority is very good! However, this is only the first part of the puzzle.
Looking in even deeper we can see the links built in for this domain include some of spammiest links imaginable. SAPE, GSA and Low Quality directories. Even worse it has ben negged!
Let’s take a look at another PBN site, this time a site acquired through magicdomains.net.
This time we can see that MOZ hasn’t even given this site any domain authority but remember algorithms have weaknesses and you shouldn’t let an algorithm dictate whether or not your purchase a site for your PBN.
What do we find this time when looking at the backlinks?
We see backlinks from some of the highest authority websites on the web with perfect anchor text! Do you think Google will look at Moz’s domain authority or backlinks from the BBC and EDU sites as the defining factor for the power for your PBN site?
